Hendon Mosque was established in 1984. It was initially opened at 135 Broadway and re-opened as Hendon Mosque on 23rd August 1996. Today it is at the heart of a diverse borough and an essential part of the Muslim community. Hendon mosque’s primary focus is to meet the needs of local Muslims by providing essential services that contributes to the spiritual, cultural and economic enhancement of the community. In 2001, Hendon Mosque has held the funeral for Nazia Hassan who was a pioneer of Indian and Pakistani Pop music. For many years they have supported different charities that provide emergency aid to the needy, nationally and internationally. They have also organised emergency collections for survivors of the most recent tragic fire of Grenfell Tower. Along with many mosques in the area, they promote tolerance and understanding and reject any form of extremism. As well as Hendon Mosque continuing to be central to Muslim residents, it is also open to all cultures and backgrounds and welcomes interaction and dialogue between all sections of the community.
